For fighters.

THE GUIDE

Not every boxing glove should feel the same.

A beginner learning how to sit down on a punch has completely different requirements from a professional boxer preparing for a fight. A fighter spending ten rounds sparring needs something different again from someone working the heavy bag, hitting pads or looking for the responsiveness of a traditional fight glove.

At KO Style, we developed three different levels of boxing gloves for exactly this reason: Intermediate, Advanced and Premium.

The difference between them is not simply the price. Each range uses a different internal construction, different combinations of padding, different leather selections and a different philosophy behind how the glove should perform.

From our shock-absorbing Intermediate gloves to our handmade Premium gloves inspired by traditional Mexican boxing craftsmanship, every KO Style glove is designed around a specific type of fighter.

So, which KO Style boxing glove is right for you?

01 / INTERMEDIATE

KO Style Intermediate Boxing Gloves

Built for protection, comfort and everyday training

Our Intermediate Boxing Gloves are the entry point into the KO Style range, but we never wanted “entry level” to mean cheaply made.

These gloves are constructed from genuine cowhide leather and built around our own dense IMF padding system.

IMF, or injected moulded foam, creates a consistent protective structure around the hand. For the KO Style Intermediate glove, we developed our own combination of foam densities with one primary objective: absorb as much of the impact of repeated punches as possible while maintaining the shape and stability of the glove.

This makes the Intermediate range particularly suited to sparring, heavy bag training, pad work and fighters who are still developing their punching technique.

Why padding matters for beginners

One of the biggest mistakes new boxers make is treating boxing gloves as an afterthought. They buy the cheapest pair available, start hitting a heavy bag as hard as possible and only begin thinking about their equipment when their hands, wrists, elbows or knuckles start hurting.

Boxing places enormous repetitive forces through the hands. There is even a recognised hand injury commonly referred to as boxer’s knuckle, involving damage around the knuckle and extensor mechanism.

Poor technique, inadequate hand wrapping and unsuitable equipment can all contribute to unnecessary stress being transferred through the hand.

A good boxing glove cannot replace correct technique or proper hand wrapping, but it can significantly change how impact is distributed through the glove. That is exactly what we focused on with the Intermediate range.

The dense IMF construction allows a boxer to commit to punches while providing a substantial protective barrier between the fist and the target. For someone beginning boxing, that extra forgiveness is important.

Instead of immediately being punished every time the angle of a punch is slightly wrong, the glove provides enough structure and cushioning to allow the fighter to develop their technique properly.

Not just for beginners

The name “Intermediate” can actually be slightly misleading. Although these are the gloves we recommend most often to beginners, they are also an excellent option for experienced and professional fighters who want a highly protective sparring glove.

Professional boxers spend enormous amounts of time sparring. When you are throwing hundreds of punches every week, you do not necessarily want your sparring glove to reproduce the feel of a fight glove.

You want protection for your own hands and, equally importantly, protection for your sparring partner.

The softer and more impact-absorbing characteristics of the Intermediate glove make it extremely well suited to that purpose. In heavier weights such as 14 oz and 16 oz, it becomes a serious everyday training and sparring glove.

A glove that adapts to your hand

One of the most noticeable things when somebody wears a new pair of KO Style Intermediate gloves for the first time is how snug they feel. That is intentional.

Within the padding construction we incorporate memory foam characteristics designed to gradually conform around the fighter’s hand. Rather than creating an excessively loose hand compartment from day one, the glove is designed to settle as it is used.

During the first sessions, the glove may feel noticeably tight. As it begins to break in, the internal material responds to the shape of your hand and the glove starts feeling increasingly personal. The result is a more secure fit with less unnecessary movement inside the glove.

This type of construction is less common in mass-produced entry-level boxing gloves, where manufacturers generally prioritise creating one generic hand compartment that feels immediately soft in the shop.

KO Style takes the opposite approach. We would rather build a glove that takes a little time to become yours.

Testing the Intermediate glove

Padding can look impressive when a glove is cut open. What matters is what happens after thousands of punches.

During development, our focus is therefore not only on the initial softness of the foam but on how well the glove continues performing after repeated impact.

The gloves are evaluated through extended heavy-bag sessions, pad work and real sparring, allowing us to observe:

Padding compression and recovery

Knuckle protection after repeated impact

Wrist stability

Internal hand movement

Leather durability

Stitching under repeated stress

Glove shape retention

Feedback from active fighters and coaches

For us, laboratory-style evaluation is only part of glove development. A boxing glove ultimately has to work inside a boxing gym.

That means hitting bags, hitting pads, sparring rounds and listening to the fighters actually using them.

Who should choose the Intermediate glove?

Beginners who want a protective first serious boxing glove.

Heavy bag training where repeated impact protection is important.

Sparring where both the fighter and their training partner benefit from additional cushioning.

Boxing fitness and regular gym training where one glove needs to perform across multiple types of sessions.

Professional fighters looking for a highly protective everyday training or sparring glove.

If maximum protection and versatility are your priorities, the Intermediate range is an excellent place to start.

02 / ADVANCED

KO Style Advanced Boxing Gloves

Three layers. Three densities. A completely different feel.

Move from the Intermediate range into our Advanced Boxing Gloves and the construction philosophy changes.

Instead of relying primarily on a dense IMF structure, the Advanced gloves use three separate layers of foam with different densities.

Each layer has a purpose. One contributes to impact absorption. Another provides structure and stability. The final layers help create the feedback and responsiveness that more experienced fighters tend to prefer.

Layering different foam densities allows us to control the behaviour of the glove much more precisely.

The result is a boxing glove that feels more responsive when punches land while still providing the protection required for serious training.

This is why we particularly recommend the Advanced range for experienced amateur boxers, competitive fighters and professionals.

Grade A genuine cowhide leather

The exterior of the Advanced glove is constructed using carefully selected Grade A cowhide leather.

Leather selection is extremely important in boxing glove manufacturing. A glove is repeatedly bent, stretched, compressed, covered in sweat, dried and then hit against bags, pads and other gloves.

Inferior leather can begin cracking, peeling or losing its structure. High-quality cowhide behaves differently. It gradually develops character while maintaining the durability and structural integrity required from serious boxing equipment.

The natural strength of cowhide also allows the craftsmen making the glove to work with tighter panels and more precise stitching.

This creates the structured silhouette that has become part of the KO Style design language.

Made in limited production runs

There is another major difference between our Intermediate and Advanced gloves.

Advanced KO Style gloves are produced in limited designs.

When we create a particular colour combination or Advanced design, we manufacture a specific production batch. Once that particular version is finished, we can choose to move on to something completely different rather than continuously reproducing exactly the same glove.

That means certain KO Style Advanced gloves effectively become small production pieces. You might see a particular leather combination, stitching detail or colourway once and never see exactly the same version produced again.

For fighters who appreciate boxing equipment beyond its purely functional purpose, this is part of what makes the Advanced collection special.

They are training tools. But they are also objects designed to have personality.

In an industry increasingly dominated by enormous production runs, we prefer the idea that not everybody in the gym needs to be wearing exactly the same pair of gloves.

More feedback for experienced fighters

As fighters become more experienced, they generally become more particular about how their boxing gloves feel.

You begin noticing things you probably never considered during your first months of boxing.

How clearly can you feel a clean punch land? How quickly does the padding recover? How secure is the wrist when you turn over a right hand? How easily can you open and close the hand? How balanced does the glove feel? How much unnecessary bulk is sitting over the knuckles?

The multilayer construction of the Advanced glove is designed with these questions in mind.

Compared with the more protective character of the Intermediate range, the Advanced glove provides greater punch feedback and a more connected feeling between the fist and the target.

For a developing competitive boxer, that difference becomes increasingly important.

Who should choose the Advanced glove?

Experienced boxers who already understand proper punching mechanics.

Amateur and professional fighters training several times per week.

Pad and bag work where feedback and accuracy are important.

Technical sparring for fighters looking for a more responsive glove.

Collectors who appreciate limited-run boxing equipment.

If the Intermediate glove prioritises forgiveness and protection, the Advanced glove moves further toward precision, responsiveness and craftsmanship.

03 / PREMIUM

KO Style Premium Boxing Gloves

The gloves that represent what KO Style is about

Our Premium Boxing Gloves sit at the top of the KO Style range.

This is where we allow ourselves to become obsessive.

Leather selection. Padding. Stitching. Balance. Hand compartment. Wrist construction. Punch feedback.

Even the amount of time the leather itself is allowed to develop before it reaches the craftsman’s table.

These gloves are not designed around producing thousands of identical units as quickly as possible.

They are inspired by the old-school philosophy of handmade professional boxing gloves, and particularly by the tradition associated with Mexican boxing glove craftsmanship.

Inspired by the Mexican school of boxing gloves

Mexico has an extraordinary history within boxing. That history extends beyond fighters and into the equipment surrounding the sport.

Traditional Mexican-style boxing gloves became respected for several characteristics: high-quality leather, close-fitting hand compartments, strong wrist support, carefully shaped punch surfaces and a more direct connection between the fist and the target.

Unlike oversized, heavily cushioned training gloves, traditional fight-oriented Mexican designs tend to emphasise precision and feedback.

The glove becomes an extension of the fighter’s hand.

That philosophy heavily influences the KO Style Premium range.

We want the glove to feel structured. Compact. Secure. Responsive.

When a punch lands correctly, the fighter should know it.

Exceptional leather requires time

The biggest visual difference between an ordinary boxing glove and an exceptional boxing glove is often the leather.

But the difference begins long before somebody sees the finished product.

Premium leather requires careful selection, tanning and preparation. For our highest-level gloves, the entire production process can take approximately three to four months, particularly when specialist leather preparation and tanning are involved.

We are not interested in artificially rushing that process simply to increase production volume.

Leather needs time.

The tanning process influences its strength, flexibility, texture, colour and eventually the way the glove ages.

Once prepared, panels must be selected and cut before the glove can begin to take shape.

The result is immediately noticeable when you hold a premium glove.

The grain. The smell. The texture. The way the material folds when you close your fist. The way it gradually develops character with use.

These are small details individually. Together, they determine whether something feels mass produced or genuinely special.

Three-layer professional foam construction

Inside the standard KO Style Premium glove sits a three-layer foam system.

As with the Advanced glove, different densities allow us to manipulate how energy travels through the padding. However, the Premium construction is tuned toward an even more secure, precise and responsive feel.

The aim is not simply to create the thickest padding possible.

More padding does not automatically mean a better boxing glove.

For experienced fighters, excessive padding can actually remove much of the communication between the hand and the target.

Our Premium gloves are designed to give the fighter clear punch feedback without sacrificing the structure required to protect the hand.

It creates a glove particularly suited to professional-level training and fighters who know exactly what they want to feel when they punch.

Horsehair boxing gloves: the old-school option

For customers and professional fighters looking for something even more traditional, selected KO Style Premium gloves can also be manufactured using horsehair padding.

Horsehair boxing gloves belong to an older era of the sport.

Before modern multilayer synthetic foams became common, horsehair was one of the traditional materials used inside professional fight gloves. And there is a reason some fighters still love it.

Horsehair produces an extremely distinctive feel. Rather than completely isolating the fist from the target, it creates a more direct and natural punch response.

For experienced fighters, that feedback can be addictive.

It is one reason horsehair and hybrid horsehair constructions continue to appear in professional boxing despite the development of modern foams.

However, the characteristics are very different from a protective sparring glove.

A horsehair glove is not primarily about maximum cushioning. It is about feel, tradition, craftsmanship and fight-night performance.

For that reason, we generally recommend horsehair constructions for experienced fighters, professional boxers, collectors and fight-night applications, rather than somebody looking for their first everyday sparring glove.

Old-school boxing craftsmanship in a modern glove

There is something boxing should never completely lose: craftsmanship.

The sport has become more technologically advanced, but at its heart boxing remains extremely simple.

Two hands. A ring. A coach. Rounds. Years of repetition.

We believe the equipment should retain some of that same character.

Our Premium gloves are therefore deliberately influenced by the era when boxing gloves were considered pieces of specialist sporting equipment rather than generic sporting goods.

Leather should look like leather.

Stitching should have purpose.

A glove should gradually break into the fighter’s hand.

And two differently constructed gloves should actually feel different when you punch.

That philosophy sits at the centre of KO Style.

AT A GLANCE

Intermediate vs Advanced vs Premium

Range

Padding

Leather

Feel

Best For

Intermediate

Dense IMF + adaptive foam

Genuine cowhide

Protective, cushioned, forgiving

Beginners, sparring, bags, everyday training

Advanced

Three foam densities

Grade A cowhide

Structured, responsive

Experienced amateurs, pros, technical training

Premium

Three-layer foam or horsehair on request

Premium selected cowhide

Compact, precise, highly responsive

Professionals, fight preparation, collectors

Intermediate

Choose the Intermediate glove if you want something protective that can handle almost every part of your boxing training.

Advanced

Choose the Advanced glove when you have enough boxing experience to appreciate a more responsive punch surface and you want something less common than a mass-produced training glove.

Premium

Choose Premium if you are looking for the closest expression of what KO Style represents as a boxing brand.

CHOOSING YOUR GLOVE

Which boxing glove is best for beginners?

For most new fighters, we recommend the KO Style Intermediate Boxing Glove.

The additional impact absorption and more forgiving padding make it ideally suited to somebody still perfecting their punching technique.

For general boxing training, a beginner will usually benefit more from protection and stability than from the extremely direct feedback of a fight-oriented glove.

As your technique develops, progressing to a multilayer Advanced or Premium glove allows you to begin experiencing a more responsive style of boxing equipment.

Which boxing glove is best for sparring?

For regular hard sparring, our Intermediate gloves in the appropriate heavier weight are generally the natural choice because of their protective construction.

Experienced fighters conducting controlled or technical sparring may prefer the responsiveness of our Advanced range.

Glove weight should always be selected according to the fighter, coach, gym rules and type of training being performed.

Which KO Style gloves are best for professional boxers?

There is no single answer.

Professional fighters often own several different gloves because different sessions require different equipment.

A professional boxer might use Intermediate gloves for harder sparring rounds, Advanced gloves for pads, bags and technical sessions, and Premium gloves for highly specific training, fight preparation or when maximum feedback is desired.

For certain professional applications, a KO Style Premium horsehair glove can provide the traditional fight-glove feeling that has existed in boxing for generations.

This is exactly why we developed three ranges instead of attempting to make one glove do everything.

MATERIAL MATTERS

Why genuine leather still matters

Synthetic materials have improved significantly. They are inexpensive, easy to manufacture and perfectly acceptable for certain types of sporting equipment.

But for KO Style, genuine leather remains fundamental to serious boxing glove construction.

High-grade cowhide provides a combination of durability, flexibility, structure and natural character that is extremely difficult to reproduce.

More importantly, leather changes with the fighter.

A new glove and the same glove six months later are not identical.

The leather softens. The hand compartment settles. The fist closes more naturally. The glove begins reflecting how its owner actually boxes.

For us, that process is part of owning a serious piece of boxing equipment.

More than a boxing glove

KO Style was built around a simple idea: boxing equipment should be made for people who actually care about boxing.

That means understanding that a beginner deserves proper protection.

It means understanding why a professional fighter cares about punch feedback.

It means understanding why different densities of foam matter.

It means understanding why somebody might still choose horsehair in an era of modern padding technology.

And it means understanding why the quality of a piece of leather matters when that leather is going to endure thousands upon thousands of punches.

Whether you are putting on your first pair of serious boxing gloves or preparing for another professional fight, there should be a KO Style glove built around the way you train.

Intermediate for protection. Advanced for performance. Premium for craftsmanship.

The difference is not a logo. The difference is what is underneath it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Are KO Style boxing gloves made from real leather?

Yes. The KO Style ranges described above use genuine cowhide leather, with higher-grade and more selectively prepared leather used as you move through the Advanced and Premium collections.

What boxing gloves should beginners use?

We generally recommend the KO Style Intermediate range for beginners because its dense IMF padding is designed around impact absorption, hand protection and versatility across bags, pads and sparring.

What is the difference between IMF and multilayer foam boxing gloves?

IMF uses a moulded foam structure designed to provide consistent padding and impact absorption.

Multilayer gloves combine several foam densities, allowing the glove maker to create different characteristics at different depths of the padding. This can produce greater structure, responsiveness and punch feedback.

Are horsehair boxing gloves better than foam?

They are different rather than universally better.

Modern foam offers greater consistency and can provide significantly more cushioning, while horsehair is prized for its traditional construction and direct punch feedback.

Horsehair gloves are generally better suited to experienced fighters and specific professional applications than everyday sparring.

Can professional boxers use KO Style Intermediate gloves?

Absolutely.

A professional fighter may actually prefer a more protective glove during high-volume or hard sparring.

The Intermediate range is called Intermediate because of its accessibility, not because it is restricted to intermediate-level fighters.

Why are new KO Style gloves tight?

A secure glove reduces unnecessary movement between the hand and the glove.

Certain KO Style constructions are deliberately snug when new and gradually settle around the shape of the fighter’s hand as the padding and internal materials break in.

How long do KO Style Premium gloves take to produce?

Depending on the construction and leather preparation involved, certain Premium gloves can require approximately three to four months from leather preparation through production.

Premium boxing equipment cannot always be rushed without compromising the materials and craftsmanship that make it premium.

FIND YOUR KO STYLE

Different fighters require different tools.

Explore the KO Style Intermediate, Advanced and Premium Boxing Glove collections and choose the glove that matches the way you train, spar and fight.

BUILT BY FIGHTERS.
